Liza's Specialties:
Since 1999, Liza Shaw has been specializing in relationships. Specifically, Liza works with some of the most difficult-to-treat situations with clients, such as: reconciling and healing from the trauma of relationship infidelity, resolving high-conflict behavior patterns in couples and families, recovering from entrenched codependency (people-pleasing, mutual withholding, passive-aggressiveness, cycles of mutual blaming, inability to take responsibility for actions, chronically feeling like a victim, etc.). Liza also has a great deal of post-graduate specialty training/certifications in trauma-informed therapy modalities such as: an Advanced Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, Certified Breath Work Practitioner, Certified Psychedelic Therapy Provider and Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapist. These tools have provided Liza's clients with great success at moving past the hurt and stressors from their past, and creating powerful and fulfilling lives!
Whether working with more than one client at a time, or with individuals, Liza's approach is always based on Family Systems Theory, an approach to human behavior that defines the family unit as a complex social system, in which members interact to influence each other's behavior. Family members interconnect, allowing to view the system as a whole rather than as individual elements. This method has been shown to be much more effective, providing longer lasting change than other counseling techniques. Family Systems Theory also helps the therapist have an unbiased perspective about all members of a family system. -- especially useful when working with couples who have highly polarized points of view.
New clients generally can schedule an appointment within 1 to 2 weeks; during busier times of the year, it can take 3 to 4 weeks to get onto Liza's schedule. She does utilize a cancellation list which can sometimes allow new clients to be seen quicker.
